The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Reading excel sheet names from access vba?
Tags: excel, vba, sheet, access, name
Hi Experts -

I am loading data into an access db that is starting in Excel using the docmd.transferspreadsheet method in access vba.

Usually the excel file has several sheets and there is no real naming convention.  Is there a way to dynamically read the spreadsheet names from access vba prior to the transfer spreadsheet command?

thx,

deedub

Dim i As Integer, j As Integer
Dim sFile, sTable

sTable = "MyTable"

That's working great... though it has raised another issue.

The spreadsheet I'm importing has columns of data that I'm importing into several different tables.  Prior to the import I'd like to verify that the column headings in excel (which are always row A) match my fieldnames.

So how could I cycle through the column headings in row A from vba? ... Ideally for only those cells with data?

thx,

DW

Hello deedub84,

Rey (aka capricorn1) gave you very good advice.  The only thing I would add to it is this:

Rather than using the Sheets collection, use the Worksheets collection.  To update your code,
just replace each instance of Sheets with Worksheets.

The Sheets collection includes worksheets as well as chart sheets and XL4 macro sheets.
Granted, if you know your workbook does not contain any of those other types of sheets
then it makes no difference, but if you *know* that all you want is what's in the worksheets,
then it's best to use the more specific option.

Regards,

Patrick
