The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

If Option Group (Radio Buttons) Is Null

Tags: Microsoft, Access, 2007
Option group (optTransportType) is on a form is and is set to null by default.  In the Before Update Event of the form, I want to check optTransportType to make sure that the user has selected 1 of the three radio button options.  I have tried the following with no success....

If IsNull(optTransportType) Then
MsgBox "Please select a tranport type.", vbExclamation, "Required Tally Information"

I receive the default access error message stating that the bound field (TransportTypeID) is required, but the coded msgbox does not fire.  I am obviously referencing the option group incorrectly. Any help is appreciated.

If you're setting it to null will it ever work?

Babycorn-Starfish...The option group has a default null value so that the user is forced to click one of the three available radio buttons in the option group.

My code above should be placed on the form On Unload event or when you have the user save data like in a command button.

If you do not want the form to unload code the follwoing:

DoCmd.CancelEvent

send the cursor to a control of your choice and and then send an appropriate  message to the user

LennyGray...I appreciate your recommendation, but I solved the problem with an alternative solution.  My solution may not be the best way, but it works for the time being.

Solution:  I changed the required property of the field to "No".  The code now performs properly and I do not receive the default error message.  Performing an error trapping code would most likely be the ideal method.
