The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft Access 2007, "There isn't enough memory to perform this operation. close unneeded programs and try the operation again"
Tags: Microsoft, Access, 2007, "Module Not found" AND  "There isn't enough memory to perform this operation. close unneeded programs and try the operation again"
I have been coding in Access 2007 and it has been coming up with the errors;
"There isn't enough memory to perform this operation. close unneeded programs and try the operation again"

Example
When declaring objects
"dim sql_search as" works but as soon as i hit space the error message pops up.
I have compacted the database and repaired it, re-booted the computer.
the DB size is 3.5MB
There is according to Windows only 650MB or page file being used (total 2gb)
and there is about 25GB of Hard drive free.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed?

Also where are you getting the 650MB from?
(Seems low)

Under TaskManager (Running just IE and Access 2003), I have:
Physical Memory (k):
Total= 2,096,300
Available=1,535,200

I was getting this same error last week, turned out to be a corrupt form. I did a Decompile, which worked for a short time but the error reappeared. I finally did this:

1) Built a new, blank database
2) Imported all objects into that database. Oddly enough, the corrupt form did not import, but I got no warning regarding this.
3) In the old db, used the undocumented SaveAsText to output that form to a Textfile
4) In the new db, used the undocumented LoadFromText to import that form into my database.

This worked, and so far (fingers crossed) I haven't had any more issues with this file, and I've been working with it all week.

You can use the two functions mentioned as such:

Save the attached code to a STandard Module in both the New and Old databases. In the OLD database, type this in the Immediate window:

SaveFormAsText("NameOfYourForm")

In the NEW database, type this in the Immediate window:

LoadFormFromText("NameOfYourForm")

Your two databases MUST be in the same directory for this to work correctly. If you determine that you're having trouble with a different object (i.e. a Record or Module) then change the acForm constant accordingly.

Function SaveFormAsText(FormName As String) As Boolean
  Dim sPath As String
  Access.SaveAsText acForm, FormName, CurrentProject.Path & "\" & FormName & ".txt"
End Function

Function LoadFormFromText(FormName As String)
  Access.LoadFromText acForm, FormName, CurrentProject.Path & "\" & FormName & ".txt"
End Function

Yes i have service pack 1 installed.

i have not decompiled the database yet. However I now get the error when opening the Database file. it pops up 5 time, one after the other before the database is opened.
would i be correct to assume that access itself has the corruption problem and not the database, as other people have been able to open it on their machines.

Sure sounds like a problem with Office/Access, considering what you originally posted. You might try to Diagnose the problem - click the Office button, then Access OPtions - Diagnose (I believe this is the same as the old Help - Repair option).

Are you sharing this database with other users? If so, have you split it into FrontEnd (Forms, REports, Queries, Macros and Modules) and BackEnd (Tables)? That's the preferred route, as trying to share a non-split FE can cause some real headaches (constant locking, corruption etc).

james_daley,

Just curious,

Did you double check/verify your memory usage through the Task manager?
Again, with the same amout of memory installed as you, and running two programs, Access and IE7, I have more than double the free memory as you have.

Thanks for the help,
i ended up Decompiling  the database and copying all the objects into a new database, and reinstalling Access, the problem has gone away.
once again thanks for the help
