Public Case Select question

Hi Experts,

Please see attachment for print screens of my problem. Basically for each day of the week I will have a maximum of 5 fixed comments (entered on another form using a dropdown and only viewable on this form (the comments are stored in a table).

Everytime a high risk comment appears on one of the days in the week a want it to be in red text i.e... '5. Is developing some knowledge and understanding of the work and is working at a basic level, towards the lower end of the ability range.'

You can see in my design view print screen that everyday has an attainment comment first, then an organisation comment etc.

What would the syntax be to change the text colors depending on the actualy text content and how would i call this function?

Tried to make this as clear as possible.

Ok here is the database (it usually works with link tables, however for this form you shudnt need them...

select the mentor 'law'

Then the students name 'Amy Ashton' for the best example.

Yes, the Left function returns the Left-most n characters of the string

Left(String,n) returns the left-most n characters of String. That makes you Select Case much easier to read.

Notice also that I moved the line

testa.FontBold = True

outside of the Select Case block becuase that line is applied to EVERY case, so you really only need it at the end.

I will try to download your DB, and look at it, tonight, from home.

Having now had a chance to look at your database, I do not understand what you are trying to accomplish. I looked at the Student you suggested, but when I try to change any entry in any day, nothing happens. I also do not understand the design of the 'mainform' - what forms are you using as sub-forms for each day - and why are they all different. I also do not see any code behind any of the forms other than the tuesdaycommentform. This is a very confused design.

Why don't you start by describing the nature of the problem that you are trying to solve, rather than asking for help with what appears to be a very cumbersome form. There must be a cleaner design that you could use.

I have been doing this for more than 20 years, so I know what I am talking about.

This is my first attempt at an access database so the design could possibly be better. I dont doubt that you know what you are talking about. I will try to answer your questions above...

When the database is first run...
The background is basically from my 'startup' form a tutor can choose their classcode from a dropdown menu and assign comments to a student on that class (the add tutor comments button).

Each student is assigned a learning mentor, when the mentor runs the database they select the 'add mentor comment' button. They then select their name from the mentor select dropdown and then the 'mentor students' combo is populated with students that they mentor.

So the lecturer assigns the comments, the learning mentor can only view comments and everything else on their form except the 'learning mentor comments' box at the bottom where they leave there overall comment of how the student is getting on as a whole.

One of the major problems has been using tables from an external database, it is this database that provides the info such as attendance % and target grade.

There is only code behind the Tue comments form as i was trying to get this form to work first (as i knew it had data entered into it that would need a different text color depend
