The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Why does TransferSpreadsheet (acImport) import data which does not exist in the workbook?

Asked by MapleMale in Access Coding/Macros, Microsoft Access Database

I have a spreadsheet which consists of a pivot table only. I want the data out of the pivot table, so I drill to details, delete the pivot table sheet entirely and save the book with just one sheet showing details of about 15 colums and 23k rows. I want to be clear, there are NO other sheets in the workbook!

However,  when I try to import using VBA this particular sheet does not import the data within it. Instead, 3 columns are imported "Calculated Field", F1 and F2. They are the columns which would show up if you were to select Show Formula fields from the Pivot table menu. I can see the formulas from the pivot table in them. I don't understand this! The pivot table doesn't exist. There is no way to get to those formulas. I deleted them and only have the details sheet in the workbook. Here is the code I'm using to import the workbook:

Public Function ImportData()
Dim xl As Object

Set xl = CreateObject("Excel.Application")

xl.Visible = True
IgnoreRemoteRequests = True
xl.DisplayAlerts = False
xl.Workbooks.Open "C:\Import_SiteMaster\Master_Metrics.xls"

'note: Right here if I pause to look at the spreadsheet, the active sheet is showing my 23k rows

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet (acImport), acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, "Conv_Master_Metrics", _
"C:\Import_SiteMaster\Master_Metrics.xls", True

xl.Workbooks.Close
xl.Quit

'the 23k rows are not imported. Only the formula definition sheet!!! arggg!!!!
