The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hi mranders,

For each control set locked=true

Good Luck!

Gary

01.16.2008 at 11:40PM PST, ID: 20679414
Thanks Gary, sorry my question was unclear.
I want my users to be able to enter data on all tabs, but only move between records on the first tab.

Still not clear...
All the tabs from one query?

01.16.2008 at 11:50PM PST, ID: 20679447
Yes all the tabs are from one query.

Create record navigation buttons on your first tab, set <navigation buttons> to "No"  in the form properties format tab and in the "Other" tab of your form properties set <cycle> to "current record".

Thanks, ldunscombe, how can I set the cycle property to the current record only when a user views the second or third tab? The cycle property seems to be a property of the entire form.

01.17.2008 at 12:33AM PST, ID: 20679593

Rank: Master

The cycle property only affects the tab or enter key from the last control. ie <Cycle> next record means that if you hit the tab key from the last form control it will move to the first control on the Next record. By setting it to cycle current record it will go to the first control of the current record.

I suggested this because if the last control of your form is on the third tab then by pressing the tab or enter key a user could effectively move to the next record. What I thought you were trying to avoid.

01.17.2008 at 12:56AM PST, ID: 20679690
I see, my problem is a little different Leigh, my users get confused when the record is changed on tab 2 and 3 as they roll the mouse wheel. So I would like to allow recored navigation on the first tab only.

01.17.2008 at 01:13AM PST, ID: 20679747

Rank: Sage

You should set the cycle property to Current record for the whole form & then add a btton on the first tab to move to a new record

01.17.2008 at 01:13AM PST, ID: 20679749

Rank: Master

Oh I see. Well thats a different issue. What you need to do is disable the scroll wheel.

There is a few links in this post that may help.

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS_Access/Q_21877768.html

Cheers

01.17.2008 at 01:26AM PST, ID: 20679790
Leigh, yes thanks I have seen this discussion, but I don't want to disable the mouse wheel on all tabs.
The user is supposed to select the record to work with on tab 1 and then continue to work with the same record on tab 2 and 3. Movement between records should only be allowed on tab 1.

I havn't come across the problem before but I can see your dilemma.  I am doing some research on the matter and will let you know if I find anything.

Thanks Leigh.

How about my suggestion?

01.17.2008 at 01:44AM PST, ID: 20679868

Rank: Master

Found it

download this.

http://www.lebans.com/mousewheelonoff.htm

In the sample db that comes with it check out the Tab control form sample.

Then you can use the "stop" mouse wheel button code in the on click events of your tab 2 and tab 3 and the start wheel button code in your tab 1 click event and the form On Current event.

Leigh

Combined with my other suggestions this should solve your problem.

PS Just remember that you need to have the supplied dll file where instructed.

01.17.2008 at 01:48AM PST, ID: 20679886
Hey Gary, I put the cycle property to the current record for the whole form.
But, I can still nagivgate between records on all tabs using the mousewheel, pg up, pg dn etc.
I want my users to be able to navigate between records only on the first tab and then work with this same record on the other tabs.

01.17.2008 at 04:12AM PST, ID: 20680476
Leigh thanks, it looks like it could work, only problem is that the database will be used by a number of people with their own installations of access and it is not possible to install the supplied dll file on all machines.

Can't you distribute it with your app ?

01.17.2008 at 04:24AM PST, ID: 20680528
The app is on a folder in a shared drive. I guess I could put the dll there, but it is in a corporate setting and it is proably not allowed etc.

01.17.2008 at 04:26AM PST, ID: 20680532

If you use lebans dll you only need to copy it together with the mdb (no installation)

I don't see a problem since it doesn't need to be registered. It is basically just an external function. But then again it's not my company.

01.17.2008 at 04:33AM PST, ID: 20680570
tbsgadi, thanks I just saw that .. I am going to try it, Leigh, I think this is what you meant and I just read the instructions for how to work with the dll too fast.
