The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

Input Mask to 2 decimal places

My form has bound textboxes which I would like to limit to 2 decimal places during the data entry process and not "formatting" afterwards.

The field in the table set to Double.
The form field is set to Standard, 2 decimal places.

Without masking, the user can type in 15.00000004 which the textbox will round to 15.00 but will still hold the original value as will the table field.

I don't want the user to type in the extra digits and want them limited to 2 decimal places.

However, the value can be anywhere from a few cents to a few hundred million so this brings me to my question.  How to put in a mask that will accept any number?

#################.99 makes data entry confusing with the underscores appearing.

Not quite.

While the underscores are gone, the data entry process is still confusing if the user clicks in the middle of the text box.

Using Me.textbox.SelStart = Me.textbox.SelLength didn't work.

I guess I could live with the textbox rounding up.

I agree ... I couldn't find a comfortable combination of INput Mask + FOrmat + other settings ...

Just a thought

You could use something like this in the After Update event of your text box controls

Me.Text0 = Round(Me.Text0, 2)
me.refresh

This way they can type as many decimal places as they like and it will be saved rounded.

Yeh I know what your saying LSM but you could take it 2 ways.

By <Afterwards> you "Could" mean that you don't want to have to backtrack through previously entered records to make changes. ie You want it in the correct format when the record is saved.

I don't know. As I said "Just a thought"

I was hoping that the user could be prevented from typing in the third decimal place.  Similar to not typing a sixth digit in a five digit zip code.

Formatting afterwards can easily round up/down but this is after the fact.

While masking does solve the third decimal issue, what about the characters to the left of the decimal?  This is not a question but more of a suggestion to the folks at MS.

The user can enter 1000.00 or 10000000000.00 so coming up with a mask that won't confuse - or annoy - the user is almost impossible (in my opinion).  

So for now, I'm resorting to running the entered amounts through a validation function and to put some Conditional Formatting on each textbox (expression is CheckFormat([textboxname]).
