The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How can I force refresh form and 2 subforms in a MS Access 2003 with VB, I created a refresh btn with a wizard and it does not work. Access says "an action or cmd refresh is not available now"  I place the btn on a form
Here is the btn code that was generated by access;
Then set the Timer Interval to 10000
(right below On Timer in the Event tab.
Private Sub Command15_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command15_Click
DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acRecordsMenu, 5, , acMenuVer70

Exit_Command15_Click:
    Exit Sub

Err_Command15_Click:
    MsgBox err.Description
    Resume Exit_Command15_Click

End Sub

I also tried to use on timer event in form properties
I tried the Me.requery and Froms!fmetersstatus.requery
I set interval to 1000

In both cases Access would give me errors: "macro me could not be found" and that macro "Froms!ffmetersstatus could not be found". Do I need to creat macros

Please help
Thank you

I have not tried this on a timer event, but it should work.

me.requery (main form)
me.subformname1.requery (you may have to do me.subformname1.form.requery)

Hope this works.

arepin,

Let's go back to the original issue:
"an action or cmd refresh is not available now"

1. This basically means that you cannot refresh.

Depending on when the user clicks the button, the form might not be in the correct "State" to refresh.
For example,
You: "It's time to feed the cat."
Your Spouse: "We don't have a cat"
In this case the "Feed the cat" comand is not available.

So you may have to trigger the refresh on the Afterupdate event of one of the forms.
For example: if you change a value in Form1 and you need to see that value updated in Form2, you would put the refresh on the after update event of Form1. then you would specifically refresh Form2.
(This will also save the user the trouble of having to remember to click the button, or to save them from clicking the button when it is not needed.)

2. Another issue here is that the code you are using refreshes the "Current" form only,
(possibly the form that contains the button), not any subforms

3. You mentioned "Requery" towards the end of your post.
Requery and Refresh are two separate commands. you have to decide which one you really need.

4. As far as I can tell you only need to refresh one form (the form that needs to see the new data) not all of the forms.

5. It is difficult to provide a solution without knowing exactly what you are trying to accomplish and your Form/Table structures.

Can you please post these?

What was the problem?

I ended up creating a new macro with one command "requery"(I did not specify any options, just a word requery and it works great.)  . I call it every time I need to refresh a data in the form, (I call this macro from many forms now). I set it on the timer event in the form properties.
 Thanks again
