The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Subform questions - Tab jump and Linkfield update.

Asked by phmurphy in Access Forms, Microsoft Access Database

Greetings,
I am using ACCESS 2007.    I have a form with a tab control and 3 tabs (pages).  Tab one has regular controls and has a query as its data source. Tab 2 and 3 each have a subform with lots of controls within the subforms.  I have a minor and a more important issue.

I already figured this one out - The minor issue is that when I click the second tab it jumps to a control and hides the tabs so I have to scroll up to see them again.  How can I get the cursor to be on the tab instead of the control in order to keep the tabs from being hidden. - I just figured this one out sorry - I used an on click event for the tab that is Forms!RoutineWetlandDelineation!TabControl.SetFocus.  Perhaps there is a better way?

The main issue is that when I add a new record I get an error when I try to change to the second tab.  The error is "Index or primary key cannot contain a Null value".
When I add a record I have an "oncurrent" event that copies the autonumber linking field (ID1) on the main table to the simple number fields (ID2, ID3, ID4) on the other tables that are used to link the tables.  The oncurrent code is as follows:
'This transfers the autonumber ID link to the other tables when they are empty
If IsNull(Me.txtID2) Then
txtID2 = Me.ID1
txtID3 = Me.ID1
txtID4 = Me.ID1
End If
txtID2 is a text box that has ID2 as the control source...
I have text boxes on the first tab that have the these text controls so I can see that they are being filled in properly.  But when I switch to the second tab that uses a different query I get the error, so it seems like update information isn't being transfered to the fields in this query. The second tab uses a query that has some overlap with the fields that are used in the query for the first tab.

I did check to see that the only indexes were the primary keys of the 4 linked tables.

How do I get past this error?

Thanks,

Pat
