How do I use operator inputs to determine the content of a cell, and the activity/inactivity of another cell?

I am creating a large database in Access 2003 that contains information about processes that have been performed. There are ID #s, Assembly #s, and Procedure #s to identify each set. I have a table that contains some main data to be used for % yield as well as the 3 identifying codes. ID# identifies one set. Each set goes through each process once, each Assembly refers to 2 or 3 Processes.

There is one form from which all data is entered, for manufacturing purposes. I want to have a drop-down list for procedures; when procedure is selected, Assembly # will automatically fill-in. Operator will enter all other data. There are 2 subforms in the main form, and one needs to vary according to process (All fields would be present on form, but some fields would be inactive depending on which process is selected.

My questions:
1. How do I make the Assembly # appear automatically upon selection of Process?
2. How do I make things in the subform go active/inactive according to process selected?

Any help or ideas I could get would be great. Thanks in advance for your help!
