Question

Access 2007 slow in forms view/design mode

Asked by: SIT_SUPPORT

Hi, I read the post 'MS Access 2007: Design is very slow' .. i have the same problem. I tried to modify the SubDataSheets name on the linked jet tables, but I have the 50% of tables linked with Sql Server via ODBC. How can I modify this configuration in ODBC Table ? .. Or can you suggest an other solution for my problem ? :
Switching from View Mode to Design Mode in Access 2007 Form , sometimes it takes 1/2 minutes instead of 1 second ..  on the same form; the OS is Vista Business, Office 2007 SP2

Others you have experienced the same problem usually Increase the memory (RAM) of their PCs and this may resolve your problem.

Have you turned OFF Name Autocorrect?

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA102564131033.aspx

How fast is your SQL connection? This can cause some slowdowns as well, and there's little you can do about it.

Increasing the RAM may help if you are very low ... if you're over 1gb, you probably won't notice any increase (but then it's always good to have more RAM ;0)

Also, when you reference another question:

I read the post 'MS Access 2007: Design is very slow'

It's a good idea to provide a link to that question. You can just copy the link as shown in your browser, and then paste it here in this question. This sometimes gives the Experts a little more information and insight into your problem.

Tanks ..

here is the link :
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS_Access/Access_Forms/Q_23290288.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+2007+access+design+view

I work with a  Toshiba Intel Core Duo P8600 2,40 Ghz 4 Gb Ram .. the SQL Connection Is Local With Sql Server 2005 Express, the performances of data access (120 tables SQL ODBC and 100 tables JET (accdb)) are good; browsing the forms, using them, computing .. ok .. the only waste of time is switching from view and design mode in forms and reports. For example : i open the accdb, open the first form, switch to design mode : immediate (after then i followed istruction oh the link at the top) - switch to view mode : ok , switch again to the design mode : 1 minute   (cpu utilization more then 50%., ram for msaccess.exe process more then 110 mb)

The project is a conversion of an application software from  A2003; this software works fine in A2003 it counts more then 100 customer working with an average of 7/8 users each one.

1. How "Complex" is your form?
Code?, Number of Controls?

2. I know you have probably  tied C&R, but how about a decompile: http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/decompile.htm
Or even creating a new blank DB and importing everything into it?

Have you applied all Updates and Service Packs to Windows and Office/Access? This would be the first step.

Did you turn OFF Name Autocorrect as I suggested?

by: SIT_SUPPORTPosted on 2009-08-16 at 22:15:32ID: 25111758

The result is the same for complex form and simple form, in accdb format and in mdb format ..

I tried C&R, Vista and Office 2007 are upgraded at last SP, autocorrect is turned off .. the accdb that I'm testing, was generated from a new accdb and import of all objects ..

I tried withh a new accdb with 1 form : ok

I tried to change machine copying the application on WXP .. all works fine
I tried to create a new user on my PC with Vista, the same application seems to work fine ..
Some suggestions to clean my Vista User ?

It may not be worth the trouble trying to "Clean" up the profile.
Besides, would you ever really trust that you fixed every possible quirk?
(I would not trust that profile anymore)
If it were up to me, I would deactivate that profile and move all their data to the new profile.
Let's see what LSM thinks...

by: LSMConsultingPosted on 2009-08-17 at 02:39:27ID: 25112684

Build a new profile.

by: SIT_SUPPORTPosted on 2009-08-17 at 03:13:20ID: 25112836

Ok .. now I'm working with a new profile, and all works fine .. Thank You
