The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)

'this routine increments the value of a text box

    If IsNull(Me!txtCounter) Then
        Me!txtCounter = 1
    Else
        Me!txtCounter = Me!txtCounter + 1
    End If

End Sub

Add a text box to your report (detail section) and name it txtCounter

To get the total count of records, in the report footer, add a text box named txtTotal and set the ControlSource to
=Count(txtCounter)

I did what you stated above, but I get a pop-up dialog box that says, Enter Parameter value, txtcounter

Ok, I figured it out.  I added to the code: me!txtTotal = Me!txtCounter and that worked.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

You added a text box (unbound) to the detail section of your report.  Select the text box and view properties.  On the 'Other' tab you have the Name property set to txtOther?  To test I just created a sample report and this works fine.  The total count in the report footer does not however.  In the ControlSource property for text box txtTotal change it to
=Count([SomeOtherControlInTheDetailSection])

I left the controls the way you proposed in your first solution, but changed the code as follows and it is working nicley:

Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)

'this routine increments the value of a text box

    If IsNull(Me!txtCounter) Then
        Me!txtCounter = 1
    Else
        Me!txtCounter = Me!txtCounter + 1
    End If
    me!txtTotal = Me!txtCounter
End Sub

I believe there is a simpler way to do this.  If I understand the questions correctly.  If you are just trying to assign incrimental numbers to each record on the report.

Just ass a text box to the report where you would like the number to be displayed, set it's control source to =1, and in it's properties set the running sum value to OverGroup.

This should inriment the text box from one on for each record.
