Question

VBA code to hide page header when a certain page break becomes visible

Asked by: sxxgupta

I am having trouble hiding the page header of a report once I come to a certain page, which is defined by PageBreak61.  This page break is in the report's footer.  The problem is that this page break can come at any physical page > 1.  How can I hide my page header.  I have attached a code snippet but it is not working.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Private Sub PageHeaderSection_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
If Me.Page = PageBreak61 Then
    Me.PageHeaderSection.Visible = False
End If
End Sub

Will it always be the last page of the report?  If so, see if setting the Pageheader property of the report to Not with Rpt Ftr.

No.  This page break will occur anywhere from page 1 or page 2 or page 3  etc depending on how many pages the main report has.  I tried your recommendation.....here is the problem.....my subreport's page header information is different than my main report's page header information.  I am simply trying to "merge" both reports together by inserting my second report into my main report's report footer section so that I don't have to run two separate reports.  This merged report is what will be e-mailed to management.

<< I tried your recommendation.....>>

<< This page break will occur anywhere from page 1 or page 2 or page 3  etc >>

What happened?  The footer should have been pushed to a new page without a page header from the main reports.  It should do exactly what you want.

<< I am simply trying to "merge" both reports together by inserting my second report into my main report's report footer section so that I don't have to run two separate reports.  This merged report is what will be e-mailed to management.>>

So PageBreak61 is a control or a variable which contains a page number?  and how are you determining that?  I'm trying to figure out why your code is not working.

it may be that you can't hide the section once it's already started to be formatted.  If that's the case, I'm wondering if on the page before you can set the header not visible (say from the page footer OnPrint event).

Hi Jim:

The problem is that when I press the navigation buttons at the bottom of my report's print preview and get to the page where my subreport kicks in, I lost the page header information of my subreport.........

Then it would seem to me that it might be easier to "Merge" The Report Recordsources, instead of trying to merge the reports themselves.

You caa use a Union Query to join (Stack) two recordsources (provided that they have similar structures.)

Here is an example:

SELECT *
FROM Table1
UNION ALL SELECT *
FROM Table2;

^Using this approach you would also have to add a distinguishing field for each table.
And set it to some generic value to segregate the two recordsources.
Then Sort or group by this field when you create the report from the Union Query.

The other question is *Why* do two report need to be squished together?
What's the problem with two separate reports?
Suppose it was 5 reports?
Suppose the structures were not the same?

Lastly then, perhaps the data in these two reports really need to be in *One* table.
This way there is only One report to begin with.

So basically you are doing a lot of jerking around (that does not seem to be working anyway) to get two reports to look and act like one, when perhaps it should be one report (With One recordsource) to begin with.

Something to think about perhaps?

;-)

Hi Jeff:

I understand the limitations.  Yes there appears to be a lot of "jerking around."  Management does not see it that way nor cares.  So I am just trying to see if there is a pool of creativity out there that can help.  There are completely two different reports with two different record sources with two different page headers........I guess I am wishing for a lot:)

There are some solutions that are not worth pursuing or not feasible to implement as they cause more headaches:)

Then if none of my suggestions were feasible, then you are under no obligation to accept my post.
My post was just a suggestion.

Besides, it looked like Jim was willing to work with you on this and he proposed a solution...
Did you try it?
If so, what was the result?

Perhaps Jim can come up with a solution for you.
