Oracle linking and Password masking in MS Access

Hi Experts

I have a strange problem here with me. We have a Data warehouse in Oracle that has reporting through the standard report tools like BO and Cognos, but there are a lot of users who use MS Access to access data and run reports / applications from the Data warehouse.  They do this using the generic username and password.

The generic username and password is known to a lot of users and the IT team doens't have any control on who is accessing the data. Our aim is to implement a security layer on top of MS access that can help us mask the password to the users or have some other way of validating them.

Currently most of the users use linked tables on top of ODBC DSN's to connect to the Data warehouse. We thought of hard coding the password in the DSN / registry ( not sure how feasible the it is to hard code in the registry ) and have the users directly connect to the database so that they don't have to know the password. but this again poses a problem. If the user is skilled to look through the DSN / Registry entry they would be able to get the password.

Is there any better solution for this, for masking the password from the user ? ( Sorry for the very long description )

Thanks
Pradeep
