The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Access 97 and Network Bandwidth

Hello Everyone,

I am concerned about Microsoft Access 97 and it’s use of network bandwidth.

I create solutions for the Production Control department in the company I work in. All the company’s departments are connected to a Windows NT server through stackable hubs. Our department is new, and our 6 workstations have inter-connected through a 10Mbits/sec hub and this hub has a connection to the main stackable hubs.

The problem is that when we all use the application(s) I created, and using peer-to-peer connections without relying on or even physically connected to the NT server, it all works fine, though it could be a bit slow sometimes.
When we connect to the server, we start getting Network Connection Error and we have collision on the hub. I tried moving the application to the NT server, but the collision moves on to the main hubs. Now I am using my workstation as a Data server too, while everyone else has a copy of the Front-End of the application. As long as we are connected to the NT server, we still get same problems.

People who came to check the network told me that Access uses the full bandwidth and is very heavy on network bandwidth and thus it creates collisions. Is this true? Does Access really need more than a 10Mbits/sec network? Why did they say that FoxPro and Oracle don’t create such problems are much better than Access in using the network bandwidth?

Myself, I don’t believe that all this is totally true.
Please, any help with detailed information if possible will be highly appreciated.
