VBA functions in SQL commands

I wrote a VBA function with three arguments. Next, I wrote a VBA procedure that builds and executes an SQL command that calls the function. I made a programming error that added a comma in the function call after the third argument, just before the closing parenthesis: Function(Arg1, Arg2, Arg3,). When the SQL was executed, it ran fine even with this error. How is this possible?
