The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Restore OldValue to subforms...

I have a main form with three subforms:
frm_ShiftRecord
fsub_BatchRecord
fsub_Downtime
fsub_Rework

I have about 45 data input controls on the main form & about 25 on each subform.  This form is used both for input and editing; the user either opens the form to add a record or opens an existing record in edit mode. The user must exit the form through one of two buttons I have provided:
cmd_CloseSave         'Closes & saves the new record/changes
cmd_CloseNoSave     'Closes w/o saving record or restores old values

Now I'm implementing extensive data validation.  I run into problems when I try to create data validation for the subforms.  I can restore old values to the main form, but how do I restore old values for subforms?

There can be anywhere from 1 to infinity Batch Records for each Shift Record.  The OldValue property is wiped each time you move from record to record, so it is lost for each subform.  One very important aspect of my data validation calls for the DB to add together the duration (of time spent working on ) all of the batch records and make sure that it matches the shift length.  In otherwords, all time must be accounted for.  If I allow users to edit the fsub_BatchRecord & they make changes that violate the data validation rules, I will no longer be able to offer them a button that can TRULY "Close Without Saving Changes"...

How can I handle data validation for subforms when the validation rule crosses record lines?  This is really important for this DB, I'm offering most of my remaining points!
