Try www.lostpassword.com. You can buy an application to crack the password, or can download a trial version that will tell you the first four characters of it. This may be enough to let you remember the password that you used.

There is an MSOffice topic area which you could have posted this question in.
I will have to assume that you are honest in saying that the password has been forgotten rather than that you are trying to open and modify a document that you shouldn't.
One method I have found that works quite well with word is to open the protected document and save it as .rtf. Then you can open the rtf version and the password will have disappeared.
If this doesn't work, there are password crackers for word and other office applications available.
