Question

combining first name and last name

Simple question...

I'm trying to cominbe first name and last name in a text box.

My fields are L_NAME and F_NAME

My code that I'm putting in is
=[F_NAME] & " " & [L_NAME]

I got this directly from the help section...so why doesn't it work?

I get this error when print previewing it:
#Error

I can get the first and last name fields separately, but when i place an "=" in front of it I get an error.

Help?

Is this on a form or a report? If it's on a form, make sure there is no ControlSource for the text box. Otherwise, Access will be trying to update the field and will choke.

I figured it out by putting the statement in the query instead of the text box on the report.

I see you have figured it out but your problem was possible that the name of the control in the report was F_Name or L_Name. If you change it's name it will work.

I agree with jhnils, you should just name them [First Name] [Last Name], it might be the underscore could be causing you problems!

I didn't think the _ would affect it but when I tried, it worked.
