Very slow connection with data on server and linked tables

Hi,

We have a program in access 97 (i know, old). The data is on our server and the program uses linked tables to other databases

When we run the program on older pc's with NT 4.0 and access 97, the speed is acceptable when connecting to the server (WIN 2000)

When running the program on an XP machine (with both Office XP and Access 97 on) the speed when loading the forms and data is way to slow. Bearing in mind that this is a new pc, with more power, memory, faster harddrive etc

Even opening a linked table from the remote pc (with data on the server) works slowly

The connection is made with a 100Mbits NIC from Intel.

When I copy files to the server, it works fine. So I'm guessing network speed is not the issue.

Can someone speed me (and my program :) up please
