Is your function publicly declared?
Public Function MyFunction() as String
End Function
Is your function inside of a module? Not a report or code module?
Is it indeed a function and not a sub routine? eg. Public Sub MySub()
If all of these cases are so, there is no reason the function shouldn't appear in the expression builder

Use the RunCode action of the macro.
The function has to be a Public declared function.
