The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Accounting Totals in Access Report

Asked by DB12 in Microsoft Access Database, Access Reports

Tags: access, totals, report

Hi,

First, I'm an IT person, not a Finance person and math is not my thing.  I have been asked to run an Access report that has company information such as Contract Value, Estimated Value, Actual Costs, Projected Costs, Cost of Sales w/o G&A, Percent Complete, and Net Margin.   The Controller wants totals on this.   Getting a basic dump out of our system was easy and it even provided a little help in the form of detail for some of the percentages.   However, attempting to do totals has me at a disadvantage.  The Cost of Sales w/o G&A (as I have named the column, COSWOGA), Percent Comp, and Net Margin totals.  I have seen an old excel spreadsheet that I think may have the answer.  Here's what it has for these columns, (and I have both the actual formula and the translation for ease):

C.O.S. w/o G&A
Actual Excel formula  -   =IF(H64+E64=0,0,IF(E64=0,100,(H64/E64)*100))
Translation
=IF(PROJECTED COST+CONTRACT VALUE=0,0,IF(CONTRACT VALUE=0,100,(PROJECTED COST/CONTRACT VALUE)*100))

Percent Complete
Actual Excel formula  -    =IF(H64=0,0(G64/H64)*100)
Translation
=IF(PROJECTED COST=0,0(ACTUAL COST/PROJECTED COST)*100)

Net Margin
Actual Excel formula  -    =IF(H64+E64=0,0,IF(E64=0,0,IF(H64=0,100,SUM(1-(H64*1.45)/E64)*100)))
Translation
=IF(PROJECTED COST+CONTRACT VALUE=0,0,IF(CONTRACT VALUE=0,0,IF(PROJECTED COST=0,100,SUM(1-(PROJECTED COST*1.45)/CONTRACT VALUE)*100)))

I'm almost there, but cannot seem to get these totals formulas to take in the report.  Is there someone that knows the translation for this?

Many thanks in advance and since he's waiting on me forthe report, 500 points.
