No, you can't do this.
In addition to Terminal Server and Citrix which are quite costly, I can recommend to check the low-cost alternative, WinConnect, out:

This requires nothing more than a workstation at the office and no after-office uploads of the database.

Hi daijames,
You cannot link a normal Access front-end to a backend file in this way and have any hope of satisfactory performance.
You will be lucky if you even manage to connect within timeout periods.
WAN speeds are simply not in the same ballpark that Access needs (and gets on a LAN).
You will have to look for other solutions; the most common ones would be (a)use of MS_Terminal_Services or Citrix or (b) proper web front-end development.
