The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Access 97 vs Access 2002
Tags: 97, vs, 2002
I have an DB application written many years ago that was designed for running with Access 97.  It was not well written, and will not run on the newer versions of Office.  Is there anything like compatibility mode with the newer versions?  If not, then can I run 2 separate versions of Office on the same system?  (I suppose I could test this myself, but I just do not have the time to set it up right now, and hoping my fellow experts may guide me here, and help me NOT waste my time on something that will lead nowhere.)

Thanks,

FE

the db in A97 should be compatible with the newer version.

it might be a lot easier to convert the A97 to the A2002, fixed the errors and run only one version of the Access.

as you will read from the link i posted, there will be problems that will be encountered for having two version of access.

yes, A97 have the older version of DAO 3.5

The main problem with trying to run a Access 97 MDB in Access 2002 is thast Access 97 made use of DAO as the Data Access technology, and Access 2000+ makes use of ADO as the DEFAULT, so you may need to change the References or at least the ORDER of the references.

Open any code page, click on Tools/References and check if the Microsoft Data Access Objects Library is selected, and if so, is it ABOVE or BELOW the reference to the ActiveX Data Objects Reference?

as for running separate versions of Access on the same system - sure can.  For reasons that are not relevant to this discussion, I maintain 4 (yes FOUR) different versions of Access on my work PC - Access 97, Access 2000, Access XP AND Access 2003 - and all four play nicely in the same sand box.

That was quick.  thanks to everyone for the excellent advice.  Will be testing this in the next week or so, but will close this in the next few days just to give anyone else a chance to post.

As a network guy, sure is nice to know I can go to EE for advice when I am out of my element!
