Question

subreport filter... error 2101

Asked by: eghtebas

The setting you entered isn't valid for this property.

Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
    Me.Filter = "Region = '" & Parent![txtRegion] & "'"
    Me.FilterOn = True

End Sub

I have tried it with report header of the same sub report.

The main report has txtRegion, say with data like East, West, etc. in footer section of Staff (This main report is grouped by number of Staff).

The subreport located in footer section to get Region name and display only related data.

How can I correct this.

Mike

That will have to be in the Report Open event - won't it Mike?

by: eghtebasPosted on 2006-03-07 at 15:46:48ID: 16129009

I have tried that two.  I will try it again to tell you why it didn't work.

Meanwhile, I used:

Private Sub GroupFooter1_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
    Me.sReport_11Team.Report.Filter = "Regionn = '" & Me![txtRegion] & "'"
    Me.sReport_11Team.Report.FilterOn = True

End Sub

on the main form.  I got the same original error 2101

btw, Regionn is valid name. It is like Regionn:Region to avoid circular reference issue.

Can you not get around this using linked Master and Child fields on the subreport on the txtRegion control in your main?

by: GreymanMSCPosted on 2006-03-07 at 15:51:39ID: 16129037

Don't even try to filter subreports like that.  That is for what the Master Field / Child Field properties on the Subreport object are there to do.

by: mgrattanPosted on 2006-03-07 at 15:55:13ID: 16129062

Data changing code can only be executed in the Open and Load events of a form, according to MSDN article 287106.

What happens when you set the filter in the On Open or On Load event?

by: eghtebasPosted on 2006-03-07 at 16:07:57ID: 16129116

mgrattan,

Please note we have report here not a form.  On open produces error 2101 discussed above.  And, there is no OnLoad event with reports.

Private Sub Report_Deactivate()  ' also Activate
   ' Me.Filter = "Regionn = '" & Parent![txtRegion] & "'"
   ' Me.Report.FilterOn = True

End Sub

Shows the data but, it shows data for first region, say West, and it shows the same data for the other footings (East, etc.)

GreymanMSC,

The linking fields are not like typical primary (unique) and foreign keys.  When I, on the propertysheet, after selecting the subreport try to link them, I got a message saying is not able locate fields to link and it even didn't open the interface to choose fields to link.  I, therefore, typed the field names manually.

Result:

It worked for region West but for East and Central didn't show its records.

I'm guessing the master field would be
txtRegion
and the child
Regionn

Is Regionn included in the subreport?

by: eghtebasPosted on 2006-03-07 at 16:30:20ID: 16129248

LPurvis

Yes for txtRegion (master field) and Regionn (child field).

And, also Yes for ... Is Regionn included in the subreport?

But it isn't filtering data as you'd want it  or expect?

Have you made txtRegion visible - and can you see if it's showing the data you'd expect to be correctly filtered upon?
It isn't in a header while the subreports are in the detail or anything?
It's updating as required?

by: eghtebasPosted on 2006-03-07 at 16:56:37ID: 16129404

For now, on a switchboard, I added an option group to select region and am filtering the recordsource queries (both for the main report and the subreport).  Therefore, I am runing region-specific reports separately.

But, I would like to debug the previous solution and use that instead.

Back to your comments:

re:> But it isn't filtering data as you'd want it  or expect?

Private Sub Report_Deactivate()  ' also Activate
    Me.Filter = "Regionn = '" & Parent![txtRegion] & "'"
    Me.Report.FilterOn = True

End Sub

Shows the data but, it shows data for first region, say West, and it shows the same data for the other footings (East, etc.)
-------------------

re:> Have you made txtRegion visible - and can you see if it's showing the data you'd expect to be correctly filtered upon?

Yes, is visible and the data is displayed correctly

re:> It isn't in a header while the subreports are in the detail or anything?

txtRegion and subform both are in the footer of Region Goroup.  The main report show some other data in its detail section.

re:> It's updating as required?

Shows the data but, it shows data for first region, say West, and it shows the same data for the other footings (East, etc.)

Even though txtRegion subsequently moves on to show data for the other regions...

And there is no filtering code left in either report at all?
(And no limiting condition in the queries?)

Hi Nico,
                                  v-- reports cannot be here
set rpt = currentdb.reports("YourReport")

It doesn't accept .reports

Mike

by: LPurvisPosted on 2006-03-08 at 12:42:55ID: 16138141

Just
set rpt = reports("YourReport")
should be adequate.

Guess that worked for A97, but guess Leigh is correct or try:

CurrentProject.AllReports("Your Report")
