The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Query results not displaying true totals for quantities summed from two tables

Asked by dssxpert in Microsoft Access Database

Tags: query, filed, results, two

I have two separate queries against two individual files that display the "correct" quantities for products I am analyzing.  However, when I try to sum the quantities in a single query, the quantity totals go bezerk.
I have uploaded an Excel file displaying the results of three queries to:
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/dssxpert/lst?.dir=/AccessExcel&.view=l
I have omitted fields IPD and FeederKey from the spreadsheet as they are not relevant to the problem.

Many of the results are multiples of 12, so I suspect the data being stored by 12 fiscal periods may be part of the problem, but other than that I am clueless.  If you can get the third SQL below to sum both files correctly that would be great.  If you can tell me how to fix the problem in Design View that would be even better!

A. Query SQL with only File 1
SELECT DISTINCTROW DcmFkey2006.IPD, DcmFkey2006.IntP, DcmFkey2006.FeederKey, Sum(DcmFkey2006.Volume) AS [File1 Qty]
FROM DcmFkey2006
GROUP BY DcmFkey2006.IPD, DcmFkey2006.IntP, DcmFkey2006.FeederKey
HAVING (((DcmFkey2006.IPD)="601001") AND ((Sum(DcmFkey2006.Volume))<>0));

B. Query SQL with only File 2
SELECT DISTINCTROW CHGDTL2006.IPD, CHGDTL2006.IntP, CHGDTL2006.FeederKey, Sum(CHGDTL2006.OriVol) AS [File2 Qty]
FROM CHGDTL2006
GROUP BY CHGDTL2006.IPD, CHGDTL2006.IntP, CHGDTL2006.FeederKey
HAVING (((CHGDTL2006.IPD)="601001") AND ((Sum(CHGDTL2006.OriVol))<>0));

C. Query SQL summing both files
SELECT DISTINCTROW DcmFkey2006.IPD, DcmFkey2006.IntP, DcmFkey2006.FeederKey, Sum(DcmFkey2006.Volume) AS [File1 Qty], Sum(CHGDTL2006.OriVol) AS [File2 Qty]
FROM CHGDTL2006 INNER JOIN DcmFkey2006 ON CHGDTL2006.FeederKey = DcmFkey2006.FeederKey
GROUP BY DcmFkey2006.IPD, DcmFkey2006.IntP, DcmFkey2006.FeederKey
HAVING (((DcmFkey2006.IPD)="601001") AND ((Sum(DcmFkey2006.Volume))<>0));
