Will this work with the runtime version, because I thought that the ribbon was disabled in runtime?

I have never heard that.

Yes it is possible.

You will need to create a ribbon and then set the ribbon name to the custom ribbon on the subform.
Checkout this link for details on creating a custom ribbon.

It's not as simple as it was in previous versions, but the ribbon can be an extension of the appliction....like a navigation/switchboard form.
