The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Compare Fields in 2 tables : Find same Words in another field and score result

Asked by fordraiders in Microsoft Access Database

Tags: , ,

Access 2003
I want to compare text(alpha words) in table(tblData-fldDescription) to another table(tblSku-DESC) and score the finds
in a field called "fldScore"
tblData: field I need to use is fldDescription
tblSku: field I need to use is DESC

What To Do:
Loop through each record in tblData(fldDescription), collect an array of words.
then search in each record in tblSku(DESC)
as it finds words in tblSku, create a score based on the numbers of words found FOR each record.

Example data in tblData
(fldDescription)                                                                            (fldScore)
MOTOR, 1/2HP  CAPACITOR START 3 PHASE TEFC

Array of words would be   MOTOR,CAPACITOR,START,PHASE,TEFC

Example data  tblSku(DESC)
SUMP PUMP MOTOR, 3 PHASE
MOTOR CAPACITOR DUTY, 1/2 HP 3 PHASE TEFC
LAMP, WARM LIGHT            <----  THIS LINE WILL NOT BE RETURNED BECAUSE NO WORDS MATCH

Lets give 5 points for each match

The sql  would return:
flddescription                               DESC                                  FLDSCORE
MOTOR, 1/2HP  CAPACITOR START 3 PHASE TEFC   SUMP PUMP MOTOR, 3 PHASE              10 (ONLY 2 WORDS FOUND)
MOTOR, 1/2HP  CAPACITOR START 3 PHASE TEFC   MOTOR CAPACITOR, 1/2 HP 3 PHASE TEFC  40 (4 WORDS FOUND)

C:\DM\Sku.mdb
"SELECT fldID, MFRNUM, MFRNAME, DESC FROM tblSku ORDER BY DESC"
"SELECT fldDId ,fldMfgname, fldMfrnum, fldDescription, fldScore FROM tblData ORDER BY fldDescription"
