Convert Date stored as Text to a sortable Date Format

I have a table (Linked) that has been imported from another system. Dates are stored as TEXT fields in the format where Jan 15, 2007 would be represented by 01/15/A7, Jan 15, 2017 would be represented by 01/15/B7, Jan 15, 2027 would be represented by 01/15/C7 etc.

I have created a query that will build the date in a "Readable" format using the following...
CalcExp: IIf(Mid$([Exp],7,1)="A",Left([Exp],6) & 200 & Right([Exp],1),IIf(Mid$([Exp],7,1)="B",Left([Exp],6) & 201 & Right([Exp],1),IIf(Mid$([Exp],7,1)="C",Left([Exp],6) & 202 & Right([Exp],1),"01/01/80")))

The problem is that I can not sort by the 'CALCEXP' field. Attempting to do so gives me an error "Data type mismatch in criteria expression" I know that my problem lies within formattting but can't seem to locate the proper syntax to correct the problem.

Can someone point me in the right direction? - Any help would be deeply appreciated!Start Free Trial
