The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Crosstab or Select query that calculates weekly total

I am trying to generate weekly sales figures from a moving Month-To-Date number. Here're my fields:
WeekNumber, ReportDate, SalesType, SalesAmount

A short example of the data...
WeekNumber      ReportDate      SalesType      SalesAmount
1                           2/28/2007      Clothing      100
1                           2/28/2007      Furniture      125
1                           2/28/2007      Household      150
1                           2/28/2007      General      175
2                           2/28/2007      Clothing      165
2                           2/28/2007      Furniture      174
2                           2/28/2007      Household      199
3                           2/28/2007      Clothing      206

Everything is a month to date figure. So, I would like to have some output that looks like this...
SalesType      WeekNumber      Total Of SalesAmount      Jan      Feb
Clothing      1                                                   100            100
Clothing      2                                                   165            65
Clothing      3                                                   206            41
Furniture      1                                                   125            125
Furniture      2                                                   174            49
General      1                                                   175            175
Household      1                                                   150            150
Household      2                                                   199            49

Week 1 is as it should be, Week2's sales are actually the Week #2 value - Week #1 value. Week 3's sales are Week #3 - Week #2, etc.

There's also the issue of having all 4 weeks available as part of the crosstab, even if the data doesn't exist yet....
SalesType      WeekNumber      Total Of SalesAmount      Jan      Feb
Clothing      1      100            100
Clothing      2      165            65
Clothing      3      206            41
Clothing      4
Furniture      1      125            125
Furniture      2      174            49
Furniture      3      199            25
Furniture      4
General      1      175            175
General      2      255            80
General      3      302            47
General      4
Household      1      150            150
Household      2      199            49
Household      3      249            50
Household      4

So, that's 2 questions: How to change Month To Date figures to weekly figures AND How to fill out the Crosstab so that all 4 weeks are available, even if data doesn't exist yet.
