MS Access continuous forms - background color from field

Tags: access, form, continuous, ms, color
Hi all,

I have an Access form which is set to Continuous Form view and is driven by a query.  The query outputs a number of text fields which are displayed on the form in addition to a numeric field which stores an access color.

(query: key_field, text1, text2, text3, bg_color)

I want to set the backcolor of each of form in the continuous view to equal the color in the bg_color field.
Does anyone know how I can do this?

Thanks

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

I think cquinn was first with the correct answer...

At the very least there should have been a points split if not the answer awarded to him.

Can I re-open this so you can split the points?

I disagree, he suggested to use conditional formatting, which does not allow coloring a text box from a color stored inside the data table. Your method, however did.

OK.  Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a mistake.  The conditional formatting feature wasn't added until A2000 and he mentioned Access 97.  Prior to A2000, the standard technique was to use the Format() function to drive different values for color selection.  The problem with that is that you were limited to four colors.

What I posted gets around that, but it is also not as fast (although it's been more then adaquate for anything I've tried).

Have a great day!
