splitting shared db: best design - local or network share FE

Asked by ComputerFundi in Microsoft Access Database

I'm wanting to split a multiuser db in a school. at present there is a single copy of the db (tables, queries, forms etc) on a shared network drive and everyone uses that. I understand about spolitting databases in access and have done so successfully with a test copy.
My question relates to the live environment:

Which of these is the preferred arrangement of the FE part (with the BE obviously on network share)

A. FE on local drive
B. FE on users own network share

Which is preferred and why?
Is there any particulkar downside to one solution or other?

If I go for A. I will have to persuade the IT support people to change the desktop policy to open up the local drive so need to present good reasons, hence this question.Start Free Trial
