Slow opening linked tables in Access using DSN, but no speed problem with queries, forms etc

I am looking at a little App developed in MS Access (developed by someone else) and have noticed a strange problem that I can't identify.  It's not the problem I am trying to fix, and doesn't impact on the users, but I'd like to know the cause.  The App uses linked tables to a SQL 2000 database.  It's in Access 2000 though I'm using 2003 (I can't upgrade the app as the users only have 2000).  The tables are linked to a system DSN going to the SQL Server database and the DSN connection tests okay.

The speed is fine when using forms, reports, queries etc, but if I try to open the table directly within Access then it's incredibly slow (10 mins).  Any idea what could be causing this?Start Free Trial
