The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Query By Form "And" or "OR"
I have a query by form in Access (qbf_customer).  For simplicity, I have a textbox named TxtCountry1 where a user inputs a data and then a command button to open a report displaying the results.

This is the query that I have that sets the value for the report:
Name
City
Country (criteria is set to [Forms]![qbf_customer]![txtCountry1])'

Now, what I need is a way to include "AND" or "OR" checkbox that would enable the user to enter another set of data.

Example1:  I want a user to enter 2 data and would pull reports using AND
TxtCountry1
TxtCountry2

Example2:  I want a user to enter 2 data and would pull reports using OR
TxtCountry1
TxtCountry2

Desired result:  Be able to get all information not only USA but also the second declared country (Malaysia)

1) your query cannot use AND --

Select * from MyTable where Country = TxtCountry1 and Country = txtCountry2

It is IMPOSSIBLE to have a single record which has the Country field being BOTH "countryA" and at the same time also be "CountryB"

Select * from MyTable where Country = "England" AND Country = "France"

2) you CAN use OR

Select * from MyTable where Country = "England" OR Country = "France"

will return all the records when belong to ENGLAND as well as the additional records that belong to FRANCE

Hi AW,

Thanks for the respond but what I am trying to accomplish is a user input.  Where the user is able to input 2 criteria.  I can set the query to ask for 2 parameters i.e. Country 1 and Country 2 but I was hoping that there is a way to include an "AND" or "OR" in the Query by Form (form).  It is possible to use this in Query by Example (QBE) in Crystal Reports.  Just wondering if this is the same case in access.

Sure you can put a checkbox on the form (which have a caption something like 'Include results for both').
Then your query can look something like

SELECT field1, field2, fieldn FROM your_table_name WHERE
  (First_criteria AND second_criteria) OR ([Forms]![qbf_customer]![chkboxBoth] AND (First_criteria OR second_criteria))

Assuming that the name of the check box is chkboxBoth.

However, I would say that Arthur's comment is still valid. I don't know how query by example works in Crystal Reports but a field cannot be equal to two values at the same time.
You could use two different criteria, comparing two different fields, eg. town and country. Then you could let user select whether the condition should use OR or AND operator.

you would NOT use an AND checkbox.  As I indicated, AND has no use oin the type of query you are running.

If there is Text in BOTH of the Country textboxes, then your query would include both countries, as I indicated in my earlier post.

I don't think I am explaining my question right.  I was able to "create" something that would do for now so I am just closing this ticket.

Thanks Arthur and Koutny.
