The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Users in mixed environment (Office 2000 and 2007) using same database

Tags: Microsoft, Office, 2000 and 2007, Mixed users in same environment
We currently have all our users on Microsoft Office 2000.  We have several in-house databases where the frontend resides on the local machine and the backend is on a server.  We may have to upgrade a handful of users to Office 2007 in order for them to use a new application.  How will that affect their ability to continue to use the in-house databases?  If I convert the frontend on their PCs to 2007, but keep the backend (which contains only tables) as 2000, will all my users still be able to dump their data into the same table source?

"If I convert the frontend on their PCs to 2007, but keep the backend (which contains only tables) as 2000, will all my users still be able to dump their data into the same table source?"

Yes ... reading/writing data in backends of previous versions is not an issue.

There should be no problem running an A2007 database against an A2000 back end.  Moreover, A2007 is capable of running (and maintaining) an A2000 (front end) database in A2000 "mode".
It's just that I don't like the NavigationPane to show, but that can be suppressed using the "Access options" button that is available when pressing the Office button bottom right.

In reference to skipping A2007...do you have any idea when the next release will be out?  Perhaps I should wait before upgrading.

"do you have any idea when the next release will be out?"

No idea ... but M$ is actively working on O14 ... because clearly, O2007 has not been embraced.  I see absolutely *no* compelling reason to upgrade.

And of course, Allen's site leads to a load of other good links.

I actually have about 3x as many A2007 links.  Of course, I'm hoping to skip A2007 altogether and go directy to Access 14.

Have written a beginners book for the Dutch version of A2007 and translated several US sample databases from MicrosoftPress books into Dutch databases. Ran into several disturbing problems...
Also ran into a "general" linked table manager problem, see http://bytes.com/forum/thread729433.html
