The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I want to print pictures in a directory of my Sunday School class
Tags: Microsoft, Access, 2003
I have a "flat-file" database of the members of my Sunday School class (about 200 members).  And I have pictures of each member.  I'd like to construct a printed directory of the names & photos, 9 to 15 names/pictures per page.  But I'm at a loss as to how to (a) link the database records to the location of the pictures, and (b) print the data plus the pictures on a page.

http://www.ammara.com/  DBPix ...

I can totally vouch for this program.

It does all the work for you. Examples show how to add a simple 'control' panel to Load, Save, Zoom In/Out, Size To Fit and much more.  AND ... virtually eliminates BLOAT associated with storing images in an Access MDB.

Note. I have no connection with DBPix ... except I have used it many times ...

I believe that you can add a column in the table that holds all of the names of your Sunday School class individuals named ImageLocation, and place the location of each image there.

IE:
Name      ImageLocation
Sean       C:\My Documents\Sean.jpg
Brandon  C:\My Documents\Brandon.jpg

Then you could create a report that uses your table as a control source with the following in the Detail section of the report:
1. an image box with (none) as the Picture (create an image control on the report, set it to any image when the wizard pops up, and manually remove the location of the image you selected from the Picture property of the Image control.  Name this image control Image1 for now (to match the code below).
2. a text box under the image linked to the Name of the child.
3. a text box that is hidden anywhere in the detail section named ImageLocation, that is linked to the ImageLocation field.

Next, paste this into the code area of your report (click View then Code to get to this or ALT+V, then C):
Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
Me.Image1.Picture = Me.ImageLocation.Value
End Sub

I'm not saying that this is a better solution than what mx posted above, but if gives you an idea of how you can do it on your own.  This approach only allows you to place one picture per row on your report (so maybe 3-4 max), but you can write a procedure in the Detail_Format section of your report that would dynamically build your report.  That would be significantly more complicated, however.

Sean & DatabaseMX:  Thank you for the input.  I'll want to test both of these solutions before I acknowledge success.  Thanks for your prompt response.  I'll post (a) satisfaction, or (b) further questions as quickly as possible.

DatabaseMX:  I've downloaded the evaluation version of DBPix.  Makes a nice looking form that associates the picture with the data.  But I'm unable to figure how to create a report with pictures and name data.  Basically a row of three pictures with the name below, and however many of those rows will fit on the page.

Can you offer any suggestions of what I need to do on the report form to ensure that the pictures and data appear on the report?

I would suggest emailing DBPix tech support on that one.
