The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Access - Update and delete queries between two tables

Asked by davecocks in Microsoft Access Database, SQL Query Syntax

Tags: , ,

The question has two parts

1) Corrections for an update query
2) Advice on a delete query - Is it possible to delete records no longer relevant in the Files tbl

1)
I have two tables Files and FILE_LIST which have the following fields:

Files:

FileName     Hyperlink
xp34.xls     C:\My documents\xp34.xls

FILE_LIST

fname         fpath
xp34.xls     C:\My documents\Spreadsheets\xp34.xls

Both  tables contain a list of all the documents in a particular folder.  I am trying to update the list in the Files tbl from the FILE_LIST tbl - using the file name field as this stays the same on both tables - the hyperlink is the field that needs updating.

i.e. FILE_LIST contains is an up-to-date list and the Files tbl is out-of-date.

This is my best guess so far, but I can't get it to work.

  DoCmd.RunSQL "UPDATE Files INNER JOIN FILE_LIST " & _
                 "ON FILE_LIST.fname = Files.FileName " & _
                 "SET Files.Hyperlink = FILE_LIST.fpath"

2)
After this update query, is it possible to delete any records in the Files tbl that no longer exist. i.e. records that are still in the Files tbl but not included in the FILE_LIST tbl based on the FileName / fname

I'm still getting to grips with SQL so any explaination / help would be great.
