A really quick way to return a field value

Zone: Microsoft Access Database

I created what I thought was quite a good way to retrieve a value from a specific field/table:

Public Function TableReturnValue(strRec As String)
'This useful little function will return the value from a specified field.

'Called in the following way (x being your return value):
'x = TableReturnValue("SELECT [tblTS Campaign Settings].YesNo FROM [tblTS Campaign Settings] WHERE ((([tblTS Campaign Settings].[Item Code])='TEXT VALUE TO RETURN'));")

'Setting recordsource
Dim rec As DAO.Recordset
Set rec = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(strRec, dbOpenSnapshot)

If rec.EOF = True Then
MsgBox "No records present.", vbInformation, "TeleStudio"
Else
TableReturnValue = rec(0).Value
End If

'Cleanup
rec.Close
Set rec = Nothing

End Function

In this example, x will return whatever value is in the field from the query. However, I was wondering if there was a more efficient way to achieve this on a multi-user network?
