Question

MS Access changes input language

Asked by: mehul_kar

I use MS Access for a database I made myself for a club. I used to run the database on access 2000, and now I run the same database (*.mdb) on 2007. This problem exists in BOTH.

I have two languages installed: English and Chinese. The Language bar is enabled, and it sits in my taskbar. Every time I start typing in MS Access tables, queries, or forms, it starts typing in Chinese. Then I have to change the language manually from the language bar. Every time I press return, or tab, it changes the language back to Chinese. Extremely annoying. I can't find a solution.

Please help. This problem DOES NOT occur in any other Microsoft Office program except access.

I am running Win XP Home Edition SP2.

Thanks

The first thing I would do is try the Northwind database and also try create a new database and see if you get the same problem in there, it could be there is something you are doing in your database that is affecting it.

Check your database properties there is a langues setting there, what is it set to? Mine is blank

Finally I have been on client sites where the language bar changes from UK to US but this always seemed to be a central IT issue but it sounds like you are on a stand-alone pc.

Cheers, Andrew

Thanks for the reply TextReport.

What is a northwind database and how do I "try it".

I have tried creating new databases and the problem is still there. The only way to remove is to uninstall the secondary language installed from language settings. (not an option).

Also, where are the language settings, I checked the property sheet of the database and my tables..andI don't see a language setting? I might not be looking in the right place?

yes I am on a stand alone pc.

The Language setting is in the Database Properties, Customs Tab.
Northwind is one of the sample databases that you may have installed.

Am I supposed to Add the language property...or what? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.

That to me shows it is not set, no I do not beleive you need to set it.

I tried the Northwind database, and the problem is not there.

I actually also tried a different database I had on my computer, and the problem is not there on that either.

I have too much information and not enough time to make a completely new database...
What setting am I missing?

by: TextReportPosted on 2009-01-13 at 10:04:46ID: 23365424

It could be a setting or it could be something you are doing in code, I don't know which.
The first thing I would do is to take a copy of either Northwinds or your other database, remove all the objects and then import your objects from your failing database, this way you may eliminate the problem without actually finding what the cause is.
Cheers, Andrew

There is barely any code..just a lot of records. I will try importing into northwing and get back to you.
Thanks.

tried importing everything into northwind.

it didn't work!!! it's still the same problem!

i guess the problematic setting was also imported

I suppose now you need to rey and narrow it down to a specific form or specific controls. If it is happening on all forms then could it be something in your AutoExec or startup form?
Cheers, Andrew

by: mehul_karPosted on 2009-01-24 at 16:39:16ID: 23458979

No it's on all tables, queries, and forms.
