Add date to table when data has been changed in any field

Hi There,

I was wondering if there was a way to add a date (now()) to my table (field - dateamended)when any element of data has been changed within my form?
I can use the onchange event per field but I felt there must be a better way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can also record who has made the changes if you like.

Many thanks for your response.
Can you break down the implementation slighty?

I copied your code as a module with my DB so now I want to make sure that my "dateamended" field is populated on any changes.

What do I put in the afterupdate event?

Hi,

Go to your form, design, AfterUpdate even. Add

=AuditTrail([DateAmended])

This will call the function every time the form is updated. There are other ways to achieve same, but this is the easiest.

You can also record who changed the record too if you like by making a slight change to teh code.

In the form, add a text control to the form (hidden or not) bound to dateamended.  Set the controls default value to Now().

Everytime the record is saved the dateamended field will contain the date/time.  You also could set that control in the BeforeUpdate event of the form.

Create two datefields in your table one for updating new records and the second for updating edited record.

For example in your data entry form create two date bound text form fields as follows:

txtDataEntrydate --> bounded to "yourtablename.DataEntrydate  
                                 ....for date record was orignally created new.
txtdateModified --->  bounded to yourtablenme.DateModified
                                ....... when record was edited in the form.

Paste the code in code snippet into your "data entry "form's BEFORE UPATE EVENT".

This should do it.

so everytime you create or edit a record the two date fields will be updated.

If you like, you can even capture the names of the employees who created or modified the records.
