Question

ASP ADO ODBC conection will not allow networked paths

I have a system DSN Called MyDatabase, this connects to an access database.  I connect to the database and show results from a query using ASP, the problem is that if I store the database on a mapped networked location, it fails to work but works fine if the path is local to the computer. I recevie the message

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

I can query the mapped data using Excel so dont see why it should be a problem any ideas?

Do you use a mapped drive? Like "Q:\share\file.mdb". That won't work, because mapped drives are user dependent and the webserver is System, not your login. There is no Q:\ drive for System.

Hi there,

You should try using the UNC name but I am not sure if this is going to work.
\\servername\folder\yourDatabase.mdb

Someone going to say I give bad advise, just grant everyone privilege for the mdb file first in order to make sure that IIS is going to able to access the mdb file.
If a tighter security is required, you will have to fine tune the security according and that will be tied to how your site security is applied.
