Question

MS Access Calc Problem

Asked by: Sariff

Experts - I'm having an issue with a calculation:
When the form opens the controls should read:
COV: 2,003.00
RATE: 0.574
VALUE: 1,149.72

I current have:
COV: 2,003.00
RATE: 0.574
VALUE: 1,149.00

I am using the code below to populate the field:
Form_frmCashOut.txtCASHVALUE.Value = Int(Form_frmCashOut.txtCoverage * Form_frmCashOut.txtRate)

Hi Sariff,

Form_frmCashOut.txtCASHVALUE.Value = Round(Form_frmCashOut.txtCoverage * Form_frmCashOut.txtRate,2)

Good Luck!

the values in Form_frmCashOut.txtCoverage and Form_frmCashOut.txtRate, are they rounded already?

by: SariffPosted on 2009-07-27 at 06:26:37ID: 24951256

No they're not...

I did add three test fields and set the Control Source accordingly. The I set the Control Source of Value field to equal the sum of the other two fields. It worked perfectly...so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with the code

Can you post your whole code?

I assume txtCASHVALUE is bound to a field called CASHVALUE.

You need to check the field size of CashValue in the table, and the nunber of DP.  Also do the same in txtCASHVALUE - check the format and the number of dp defined.

(The origfinal calculation was working exactly in accordance with the calculation you had specified - you seemed to be suggesting it was working incorrectly)

Try something like this:

dim gVal as currency

gVal = Round(Form_frmCashOut.txtCoverage * Form_frmCashOut.txtRate,2)
Form_frmCashOut.txtCASHVALUE.Value = gVal

by: clarkscottPosted on 2009-07-28 at 11:33:50ID: 24963546

Just make sure all your involved text boxes are displaying data correctly.

format: general
Decimal places: 2

by: clarkscottPosted on 2009-07-28 at 11:35:45ID: 24963562

Why is this an INT?  Seems you're forcing an integer.

Int(Form_frmCashOut.txtRate * Form_frmCashOut.txtCoverage)

Scott C

by: LimbeckPosted on 2009-07-28 at 11:36:10ID: 24963566

..and check that the fieldtype of field CASHVALUE is correct, when you dont use this field as a controlsource it displays the data correctly you say, but if you sue CASHVALUE it rounds the data, this implies the field itself is incorrectly defined :)

by: clarkscottPosted on 2009-07-28 at 11:41:14ID: 24963613

You could create variables in your code - assign the variables the values currently in the text boxes - do the math with the variables and check it in code - and then display the result (assign the result to your text box).  This way you can debug (examine the values as you go) and figure out what's going on.
