Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWe have a commercial application (a mailserver called Softalk) running on one of our client's systems. It uses a JET database (MS Access) for the main .mdb database. It is running on a Windows XP PC
We think the daily backup app has "grabbed" it as the error dialogue "You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user 'Admin' on 'mymachine'" comes up.
I am unable to open it in ODBC > DSN either to try a repair
I have already tried:
- On windows, Go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management (Make sure you have administrative privileges on the PC where the file is located)
- Browse to System Tools>Shared Folders>Sessions or System Tools>Shared Folders>Open Files. From there, you can select to disconnect the session holding the access file.
But with no success. How can I "release" it? Any ideas welcomed

Check the folder where the database is located for a file named <your database name>.ldb. If you find one, delete it. Make sure everyone is out of the database and your app during this process.

If that doesn't work, you may need to Compact and Repair the database. You can do it using Access or JetComp (http://support.microsoft.
Before doing ANY of this, make a backup first (obviously).
