Question

Laban RTF software - which OCXes are required?

Asked by: Peborgh

I have just moved a 2002 Access app to Access 2007 under Win7 official. I am having some problems getting the RTF controls to work.
Can someone tell me which .ocx files are required in that environment for Laban's RTF controls to work?

Many thanks.

MX, does the Lebans control work in Acc 07?

Peborgh,

As you probably know MS has "Simulated" RTF in Access 2007.
(It is really HTML, but the ability to format is still the same)
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA100140971033.aspx

If the App will stay in in the 2007 format, this may be an option.
If the App must be in the 2003 format, then let's see if MX can confirm if the control is compatible with Access 2007.

", then let's see if MX can confirm if the control is compatible with Access 2007."

I can't confirm that.

boaq2000,
do you know how solid this pseudo-RTF of MS's is?

peter

by: boag2000Posted on 2009-10-20 at 17:28:59ID: 25619902

Again, it is HTML, and as such, is a solid as any HTML formatting utility.

Define your criteria for "Solid".

by: PeborghPosted on 2009-10-21 at 02:10:12ID: 25621962

Mmm... It does what it says on the tin. It has no major bugs. It does not turn around and bite you. It does not fall over...

<It has no major bugs. It does not turn around and bite you. It does not fall over>
Well those things are not really quantifiable...
;-)

"do you know how solid this pseudo-RTF of MS's is?"
"no major bugs"
No major bugs but, "minor" bugs would be considered "Solid"?

The functionality does what it is advertised to do.
Allows you to format text inside a control/Field.
(Although you cannot insert HTML "<b>SomeText</b>" and have it appear as bold in the field.)
Again the functionality is designed to let you format the text in place.

Beyond that, you will have to make your own tests for bugs, bites, or falls.
LOL
;-)

Peborgh,

Your original Q was:
"Can someone tell me which .ocx files are required in that environment for Laban's RTF controls to work?"
...for which MX proposed a solution.

You never got back to him as to if his suggestion worked.
(Coincidentally I am involved in another post where Expert "puppydogbuddy" claims that the Lebans control will support HTML.)
So I was curious to see what you determined.

My post was just to suggest an alternative.

You should try to respond to each experts posts in chronological order.
It can cause confusion when a certain Q is asked, but different solution is accepted.

At my level here (and to a greater extent MX's position here), it is not about "Points"

So it is always nice if you inform the experts of what you thought of their post/suggestion.

Most experts here participate in dozens of Q's per day.
"You win some, you loose some"
;-)

But at least if you say something like:
"Hey Jeff, your solution works, but I am going with Expert X's solution because it uses ADO instead of DAO.
Then at least the expert know that you considered their post

;-)

AFAIK ... Leban's control is true RTF, not HTML ...

Like I said, I was curious about this too.
(perhaps, Ill buckle down this weekend and resurrect my sample file on this.)
;-)

A far as the "accepted solution" issue....
It is one of those things that you only notice when you get the short end...
;-)

I don't think it has ever really been addressed in a thread yet.

Again I think it mostly falls under the category of "whatever answer the Asker feels is acceptable." or "You win some, you lose some".

That why when it happens to me, I always ask:
 "Did you try my solution?"
"What was the result"

I don't really mind if a person asks for a DAO solution (and that is what I post), then they go with an SQL solution.

All I ask is that the asker simply shoot a reply that says:
"Hey Jeff your solution works, but I decided to go with Ray's SQL solution."

;-)
