Browse All TopicsHi EE,
I normally post in Access, am newly working with a product call Oracle Discoverer.
Anyway, many times when I have Discoverer questions I go to the Oracle website, bec.
more Discoverer users are active there.
I am here, bec. I learned that I needed to set a registry switch for Discoverer to behave
differently.
I worked with the registry for the first time today, and am afraid it did not go seamlessly.
a) i learned about backing up the registry file after I added DWORD values (switches?)
b) so I'd like to know if I rename the switches by adding a prefix of xTest_
do you think these switches will be IGNORED (that's what i want right now)
by Discoverer.
Please advise.... tx, sandra

Yes, you could think of it kind of like the file system on your computer. If you want to navigate to a certain file on your C drive, you would open folders until you found the file you were looking for. The registry works in the same manner, except instead of files, it has variables. It stores information that tells the program how to operate in your environment, based on your settings.

I would not expect a program to find a registry value once it's been renamed. However, I can't imagine you did much harm (if any) to your registry if all you did was create new values. As long as you didn't change/delete existing values, you should be fine.
