I noticed when installing some other programs, it's also installing Microsoft redistributables. I never had to do this and I wonder in which situation do I need to install those redistributables? I assume these redistributables are legal, but wonder if there is any royalties I have to pay Microsoft?

You should always ship the redistributable packages to your end users, since you won't know what thy have already installed on their machines. There are no royalties involved, just download the package from http://www.microsoft.com/d ownloads/d etails.asp x? familyid =32BC1BEE- A3F9-4C13- 9C99-220B6 2A191EE&di splaylang= en
