I did something similar and it worked for me.
Perhaps try putting "file:\\" on the front of your link?

by: jitgangulyPosted on 2008-05-16 at 20:57:18ID: 21587934

Sorry does not work either with this

<img src="file://IMG_1588.jpg" alt="me" width="480" height="321"/>

Again its only happening in IE 7

If C:\ is where your OS is, IE may not like that. Try a different folder...

I am using G:\ thats my external hard drive. WHy wouldn't it work with G or C

by: YoungBonziPosted on 2008-05-17 at 06:12:11ID: 21589205

I  wasn't sure if you were using Vista, because the root of your system drive is pretty much off limits.
This is strange though, I also think it should work. What exactly happens? Do you see the alt text in-place of the image, or is it just a blank page, with no placeholder or anything?

by: jitgangulyPosted on 2008-05-17 at 07:17:15ID: 21589409

I am using XP. It just shows a red cross mark on top left. Alt does show me.
But works perfectly in firefox.

Can oyu try a simple html page with a img tag and let me know the syntax. Its definately different in IE 7

by: YoungBonziPosted on 2008-05-17 at 07:25:16ID: 21589432

Your code works fine for me. In Firefox it only showed the alt text until I hit ctrl-F5, but your code works on my system.

by: YoungBonziPosted on 2008-05-17 at 07:36:45ID: 21589480

Actually I'm sorry, I don't mean to confuse you, but it stopped working in Firefox, but works as you supplied it, in IE7.

Firefox won't load the image unless I add File:\\

I see you typed the \\'s as //....

give the code below another try...

<p><img src="File:\\c:\1148060828_m.jpg" alt="a picture" width="480" height="321">

Now what happens if my html page is in c drive. Do I need to mention "File:\\c:\1148060828_m.jpg" or can't I say like

"File:\\1148060828_m.jpg"

Does it work for you in IE 7

by: YoungBonziPosted on 2008-05-17 at 09:09:41ID: 21589872

Yes, you need to include the drive letter.
Read "File:\\" like "Http://" or "Ftp://"

Read "c:\" like "MAIL".google.com...in the sense that  "g:\" might be "MAPS".google.com, etc.

Sorry bad example there, but yes, you need to specify the drive letter..."File:\\1148060828_m.jpg" won't work on any Windows PC.

You say that the jpg is on g:\? so try: <img src="File:\\g:\1148060828_m.jpg" alt="a picture" width="480" height="321">

If that doesn't work the problem is something other than the html

by: jitgangulyPosted on 2008-05-17 at 09:15:06ID: 21589901

This does not work either in IE or FF

<img src="file://g:/004_1.jpg" alt="me" width="363" height="545"/>
or even this
<img src="file:\\g:\004_1.jpg" alt="me" width="363" height="545"/>

by: YoungBonziPosted on 2008-05-17 at 09:21:26ID: 21589932

The second one is the correct, the problem lies elsewhere...I really don't know what it could be, try refreshing with Ctrl + F5

hi,

Let me know one more thing.. If you open any website in IE7, for example www.google.com are you able to see all images in that page or "X" mark for the image.

by: jitgangulyPosted on 2008-05-20 at 12:15:23ID: 21609337

Nope. All other pages looks normal

by: Arnee_SenthilPosted on 2008-05-20 at 12:18:01ID: 21609371

if you are not able to view images for any website, the "show Pictures" option might be disabled in your browser..

Just double check whether this option is enabled in your IE7 settings..

Go to Tools menu >> Internet Options...

In the pop up window go to "Advanced" tab...In this tab you can see multiple options with check box.

Scroll down to Multimedia area and check "Show Picture" option is checked or not. If not selected please select the check box and click OK.

I just want to double check this option is enabled or not in your IE7

check the image file attached...

whats your image file's exact extention JPG or JPEG?

by: jitgangulyPosted on 2008-05-21 at 08:19:18ID: 31458871

It started working without any drive letter. I put the image in the same folder as the html file. Most likely it was cachign with the wrong path name. After I closed all IE tabs and put back with just <img src="filename.jpg" alt="me"> it worked.
