Question

How would I generate a Web Page Post Back using Access VBA

I'm been relatively successful  accessing and updating a web page from Access 2000. I'm using the ' Create an object ..(code snippet)...code below to access the page(s).

Here is the part of the aspx source code that I'm trying to figure out.
<select name="ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown" onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack(\'ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown\',\'\')', 0)" id="ctl00_PageContentPlaceHolder_vTypeDropDown" style="width:200px;">
      <option selected="selected" value="10003">- Please Select -</option>
      <option value="13">Class A Motorhome</option>
      <option value="16">Fifth Wheel</option>
      <option value="19">Travel Trailer</option>
      <option value="15">Class B Motorhome (Camper Van)</option>
      <option value="14">Class C Motorhome</option>
      <option value="17">Park Model</option>
      <option value="18">Tent Trailer</option>
      <option value="20">Truck Camper</option>

I can programmatically change the value of the option box on the web page without any problem.. what would I need to do to generate the post back?

What do you mean by "generate the post back".

What I mean is if I go to the web page and select a value manually, after I do that the page does a post back and changes other information on the page.

I'm trying to figure out based on the source code above, what I would do in vba to have the same effect?

I am a bit confused...postbacks are used to trigger events on the front end...if you want to intiate events on the back end...we used stored procedures or triggers...

Perhaps my terminology isn't correct...
The source code of the web page shows
onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack(\'ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown\',\'\')', 0)"

Is there a way I can trigger this event in vba...please keep in mind the we don't have control of the web page, we are just trying to automate it from within Access.

After:
objIE.Document.Forms(0).all("ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown").Value = 13
one of these two may do it:

objIE.Document.Forms(0).all("ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown").Submit

or

objIE.Document.Forms(0).Submit

It depends upon where this code is on the page:

onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack(\'ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown\',\'\')', 0)"

Perfect!!....objIE.Document.Forms(0).Submit  worked just fine...Thank you some much.

BTW...objIE.Document.Forms(0).all("ctl00$PageContentPlaceHolder$vTypeDropDown").Submit
 gave me an error message indicating that the method wasn't supported.

I gave you both since you did not post the source code for the entire page.  submitting the entire page or the element depends upon where the postback is located.

Hi Nelson, on another page I've got a situation where there is two selection boxes...one driving the other and objIE.Document.Forms(0).Submit  doesn't work....should I post the complete page source code and ask how that is done on a separate question?
