The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to Automate Mail Merge from ASP.NET application?

I plan to make a form in ASP.NET that will let the user select which labels he wants generated. I need to automate the following example and 30,000 other labels via Word's Mail Merge:

Part Number
Description
Image of Barcode

The description is derived from attributes of an entity in a SQL Server 2005 database. Example of description:

Description = ThreadSize1 + ThreadType1 + " x " + ThreadSize2 + ThreadType2

On all of our bins in the warehouse we use the Avery 5160 labels. However, along with the bin labels, we use a small magnetic beam label (4" x 4" usually) and a large magnetic beam label (8 1/2" x 3"). These are printed on magnetic sheets with the lines in between to make it easy for cutting.

How can I limit the characters in the 'description' line on the label or make it bigger if the text will be smaller? Some part numbers need to be as big as possible (up to 25' from ground) but still allow the description to be fairly big and have room for a barcode and it's SKU number.

So sometimes I'm worried the text isn't big enough (large beam labels), other times I'm worried there isn't enough room  (small bin labels). It would be (VERY) inconvenient to make labels that would not fit on the bins.

Please advise on what you think would be the easiest solution to automate the label making process once our database is filled with product information (i'm trying to plan ahead).
