These link only talk about installation of VSTO but not the installation of external files.

Example, I published ths project and I ended up with the installation folder. This folder contain both the setup.exe and the word template that is produced by the publish option. Next this installation is given to my user and user click on either the setup.exe or the template, then the installation of VSTO is carried out. After the installation, I need the word template to be copy into C:\Template, which currently I am unable to do so.

Regarding your coment, this not the way a Word document solution is deployed according to M$ and VSTO team..
Basically your user only copies your document template to his folder. It assumes the the users PC has all the pre-requisites installed.
When the user opens the doco template, then VSTO will run your installer and install the add-in.

Quoting from the link above:
"
The first time the users (Abby and Jody) try to open the file, they must have network access to the same server URL or web URL, such as a departmental server or intranet site.  After the first use, the users can be offline because the assembly will be loaded in the ClickOnce Cache.
The users (Abby and Jody) have the .NET Framework 3.5, the VSTO Runtime, and Microsoft Office primary interop assemblies installed on their computers already.  This can be accomplished company-wide using SMS or any other software management system. For more info, see the blog entry Deploying Prerequisites for Your Visual Studio Tools for Office Solution.
This scenario only works with Office 2007 solutions.  VSTO does not use the ClickOnce Cache when deploying Office 2003 solutions.

Ok I understand your point. So in another word, for my suitation I would need the word template to be able to copy to user machine, is there any way I can do this without building another setup.exe? Like tapping into the setup.exe the produced by the publishing option?

by: mas_oz2003Posted on 2009-09-22 at 00:04:32ID: 25390206

Yes  the previous link give plenty of details on how to do this. Just replace email for using explorer.
You will use the same setup.exe once you deploy your solution to a file server.
Just be aware that all PC users need to haveal prereq installed (VSTO rules ..)

Hi mas_oz2003,
What I mean is that is there any way for me to programmically copy the template to the desired directory during installation. The previous link I could not find anything abt this. Forgive my stupidness....

by: mas_oz2003Posted on 2009-09-22 at 04:42:09ID: 25391626

OK, finally I found the link that explains all your need to know about how to do what you required:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb821233.aspx
Unfortunately it depends how you are going to publish(web, network share) and install.

Hi mas, this link does not teach me how I can publish my own external files to the directory I desired. Please enlightened me. Thanks. Also I was sorry to reply so late

by: mas_oz2003Posted on 2009-09-26 at 01:34:49ID: 25429214

It does not tell it directly. You can not add external files that are not part of your application solution.
Furthermore, your application will be installed in a ClickOnce application cache. Please read the table at the end of this link.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/142dbbz4(VS.80).aspx

If you need the freedom in your installation to add any external files as well as choose the target folder to install you need a proper Setup project (generates msi and Setup.exe)

by: KenTan85Posted on 2009-09-27 at 18:40:26ID: 25436320

Ok, this is bad, because I need all the clickonce feature because of the security. That mean that I cannot install external files into my desired directory using the clickonce feature. Correct?

by: mas_oz2003Posted on 2009-09-30 at 19:59:49ID: 25465691

Yes, you are going to need a Windows setup installer to do this task.

Hi mas,
It will be good if I can package it a single installer instead of 2 installer. Is it possible to have a windows setup that run the clickonce setup followed by the installing of external files into my desired directory. I personally think this might work. What do you think?

by: mas_oz2003Posted on 2009-09-30 at 20:57:42ID: 25465877

I was thinking on that too, but it defies the purpose of Publish the solution as your external files will not be in synch with your Click once deployment reqgarding automatic updates.

My recommendation will be to go with Windows setup installer; but you can evaluate the change rate of your external files.

If you still want to go this path you need add your Windows installer as a prerequisite in VS so that you can use that prereq in your Click Once deployment.
See the section "Preparing your Development Computer" in the link before for an introduction. you installer must go to the bootstrapper directory on how it is done for the office components.

by: mas_oz2003Posted on 2009-09-30 at 21:04:38ID: 25465897

Sorry I meant see section "Preparing your Development Computer"  on how it is done for the office components.

Thanks I think that is the only way we can do it.
